Aba Power Ltd has cried out over unpaid N4.2 billion electricity bills by consumers
Less than six months, after it commenced electricity distribution in Aba, the commercial and industrial hub of Abia State, the Aba Power Ltd (APL), has announced it is owed N4.2 billion for electricity supplied residents.
APL is the distribution arm of Geometric Power Ltd, independent electricity generating company based at Aba, which establishment brought hope for reliable power supply to the town.
Chairman of the Company and former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, announced the huge debt during a town-hall meeting between APL and Landlords Protection and Development Association (ALPADA).
He expressed worries that barely six months after it took over electricity distribution in Aba, his company is owed N4.2 billion by consumers.
He disclosed that his company invested in Aba to support manufacturing through provision of enduring electricity supply.
Stakeholders in the energy sector have suggested to the Aba company to issue out prepaid meters to his customers in Aba to reduce the incidence of accumulation of debts and energy theft.
