Ajao estate residents cry out over house demolitions
It was a pathetic scene yesterday as residents of Ajao estate cried out bitterly over the demolition of their houses situated at Rockview street.
In a viral video one unidentified woman was seen weeping profusely on what she termed wickedness of the Lagos State government on some sections of the people in the state.
According to her she was not even allowed to retrieve her properties particularly her documents before the demolition exercise was carried out. In her words she was just coming back from the hospital only to meet her house in ruins.
Concerned Nigerians are wondering how the developers and owners of the properties got approval for the erection of the structures in the first place and why the buildings have been allowed to stay for close to a decade now.
A cursory look at the buildings on the street shows that they are exotic and expensive mansions.
Somebody or a government agency gave approval for building as no one can just wake up and build houses any how in Lagos.
Although LABSCA has said that notices have been given to owners since 2016 on the impending demolition but the question is why is demolition coming now few weeks after the general election.
So far 13 houses have been demolished and more are said to face the carterpillar in the days to come to fully achieve the target set for the demolition exercise.
