Inspector General of police orders arrest of Singer Seun Kuti for slapping police officer
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform.
A statement released by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, says the IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.
‘’IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book.” the statement read in part
Meanwhile Seun Kuti has given reasons why he slapped the police man. According to a message posted on his verified Instagram page Seun said he slapped the police man for trying to kill him and members of his family. He further revealed that the erring police man has apologized and that he has forgiven him.
He added that he welcomes full investigation into the matter and offered full cooperation but insists that whosoever that is indicted must face the full weight of the law.
