ASUU re-elects firebrand professor Osodeke as national president
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has re-elected Emmanuel Osodeke as its national president for another two-year term.
The union members re-elected Osodeke as president and Chris Piwuna, a consultant psychiatrist and associate professor in the College of Medicine at the University of Jos, as vice president.
They were re-elected during the 22nd National Delegates Conference of ASUU, which was hosted by the University of Jos, Plateau State, between Friday, May 19, and Sunday, May 21, 2023.
Other ASUU National Officers re-elected during the conference include Prof. Siji Sowande as Treasurer, Prof. Ade Adejumo as Financial Secretary, Dr Austen Sado as Investment Secretary, Dr Adamu Babayo as Internal Auditor, and Dr Aisha Bawa, who replaced Dr Stella-Maris Okey as Welfare Secretary.
Professor Osodeke has been a firebrand, progressive academic unionist who championed and led the university lecturers to a successful eight months strike that brought the government of Muhammadu Buhari to it’s knee in 2022.
The strike which began in February was called in October, 2022.
