Ex CBN governor Emefiele is in our custody–DSS
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have reportedly arrested Mr. Godwin Emefiele moments after President Bola Tinubu ordered his suspension as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
It was not clear why the embattled former apex banker was arrested, and there was no official statement from the secret police on the matter.
Following his suspension, Tinubu appointed Mr. Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as the acting Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in replacement for Emefiele.
The secret police had earlier made attempts to take in Emefiele save for the intervention of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The DSS has since gone to court to secure an order to effect Emefiele’s arrest for alleged terrorism financing offence.
Some Nigerians are of the view that the arrest of Emefiele is long over due.
They see his continued stay in office as one of the atrocities of former president Buhari committed .
They question the rationale behind a CBN governor delving into politics, contesting election without first resigning from office and still left to operate as CBN governor.
They were also of the view that Emefiele made a mess of the now abandoned new naira design that sent dozens of Nigerians to untimely grave.
Also in the accusation shop list is Emefiele operating multiple exchange rate, favouring few people and impoverishing millions of Nigerians.
And to the Emefiele mismanaged the economy with his mindless economic policies.
Added to this is Emefiele being severally accused of sponsoring terrorism and banditry as DSS have on several occasions wanted to arrest him on account of that but was shielded by outgone president Buhari.
