Lagos danfo bus drivers disobey MC Oluomo & Gov Sanwolu…refuse to slash transport fares

The plans by Lagos State government and chairman of Park management in Lagos MC Oluomo to slash the transport fares of commutters may have hit the rocks.

This is because Agenda papers correspondents all over the city report that Danfo bus drivers stuck to their gun and insist on prevailing high transport fares.

For instance buses loading from Ajao estate junction, airport road to mile 2 were collecting N500 instead of N300 fare before the fuel subsidy removal.

Also trips from Ijora to Oshodi cost N600 instead of N300 previously collected.

Interviewing one of the bus conductors at airport road who gave his name as simply Rasheed he said neither Governor Sanwolu nor MC Oluomo have reached out to them on the modalities to effect the fare slash. According to him he spends N5000 to buy fuel to and fro Airport to Oshodi.

But on the other hand government owned BRT buses adhered to the bus fare reduction in virtually all the routes in Lagos. For instance a BRT bus ride from Ojodu Berger to Ajah now cost N350 instead of the previous N700.

Recall that Lagos State Parks and Garages Management Committee chairman MC Oluomo has said that its members will not join the nationwide protest planned by organised labour groups as it will take care of the drivers and reduce transport fares for Lagos commutters.

Also observed is the brisk business private car owners otherwise known as kabu kabu are making now. Most of them have resorted to carrying passengers to make up the high cost of fuel.

Interactions with some of them indicate that they prefer to use the money they get from passengers to agument their fuel purchases.

Another observation is that most Lagos roads are now free devoid of hectic heavy traffic and gridlock. Reason for this as investigation show is as a result of many car owners putting their vehicles off road since they cannot afford the high price of fuel.
