Senate stops Keyamo screening & confirmation…accuses him of arrogance & insulting senators
One time human rights activist and immediate minister of state for labour Festus Keyamo faced a hard time with senators today during screening.
Keyamo had first started by saying “I had lost hope and was about leaving the country with his famiy”
But some of the Senators raised a motion backed by Senator Darlighton Nwokocha (Abia central) to look into the affairs of Keyamo’s past ministerial works.
As monitored by our correspondent on NTA , the federal lawmakers noted that Keyamo deliberately stayed away and rejected the summons of both the House of Representatives and the Senate when he was a minister.
The Senator also reminded the plenary that Keyamo once lampooned senators of the federal republic calling them corrupt.
The lawmakers concluded that Keyamo should be stepped down until the National Assembly has carried out an inquiry into Keyamo’s former ministerial appointment and ministry.
As at the time of filling this report, the Senate moved into an executive session to determine Keyamo’s fate.
The sitting period of the senate was then extended beyond 2:00 pm as backed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. However, the Senate has moved into an executive session to discuss the issue of national concerns and Keyamo’s screening.
Also the Senate demanded answers from Keyamo over 774,000 workers’ recruitment of Nigerians under the Special Public Works programme in the year 2020.
They ademanded answers from Keyamo regarding the approved employment of 774, 000 workers to cushion the effect of the economic hardship caused by COVID-19, which his ministry handled under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration but didn’t see the light of day.
It will be recalled that Keyamo served as the spokesperson of the Bola Tinubu presidential campaign council in the build-up to the February 25 presidential election.
Also Keyamo in his valedictory speech at the end of his tenure lampooned former presidents for going against the constitution by appointing minister of state which he said is Illegal and unconstitutional even as Keyamo served as Minister of state for labour for four years under Buhari regime.
It is believed that Senate president Godswill Akpabio rushed to Aso Rock to brief Tinubu on the hiccups the ministrial nomination of Keyamo is causing.
