Anambra house of assembly member barred from entering assembly complex with keke
A member of the Anambra State House of Assembly who arrived to the complex in a Tricycle (Keke) was barred from entering the Assembly.
The member identified as Bernard Udemezue was seen arriving the complex in Keke. But on getting to gate, he was denied entry by security men, reports The Guardian.
The Anambra State Government has refused to provide members of the State Assembly new official cars. This, therefore, might be the reason, Udemezue, who is a member of the House had to go to work in a tricyle Keke
However, the drama ensued when Udemezue and those who identified him as a lawmaker tried to convince the security operatives that he is a member of the House.
Their efforts however, failed as the security men stuck to the ground, he will not enter the complex.
Udemezue, according to reports, is the most popular grassroots politician in the House. He contested the election under the Labour Party and defeated the former Speaker, Uche Okafor of PDP, in the 2023 general election.
In a viral video, Udemezue was seen protesting his stoppage by security operatives at the gate. He was seen saying: “Have you given me a car? I’m using what I have.”
Some of those that commented on the development described it as unfortunate. According to Ukadike, “Our society appears to be against humble public office holders. People who are willing to keep their lifestyles low.
Ukadike maintained that it is the society that force politicians and public officials to live flamboyant lifestyles.
He reasoned that Udemezue was stopped at the by security guards because he did not arrive in exotic car.
“Udemezue has kept a modest profile and avoided a boisterous lifestyle since his early days, even before becoming a legislator.
“Since the State Government was yet to make available their official cars, he opted to use a tricycle to work.
Ukadike, however, blamed the security men for their action. “Even when people identified the Udemezue as a member of the House, they still refused.
