You don’t win election petitions on social media –Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and former Governor of River State, Nyesom Wike, has maintained that election petitions are not won on social media. He pointed that the law courts deal with facts and evidences.

This was his submission at an exclusive interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Thursday.

The strongman of River State politics commended the Presidential Election Petitions Court for delivering a good judgment. The Tribunal had on Wednesday 6, 22023 affirmed President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the February 25, Presidential Poll.

Speaking on why he is not supporting the candidate of PDP at the tribunal, Wike said, he did not believe in their position. “I am not supporting PDP and its flag bearer, Atiku at the Tribunal because I believe their position was wrong.”

“I have always told people that election petition is not like any other case. It’s a special area. Not by propaganda and it is not won on social media. It is presentation of evidence and facts.

“I sat down for not less than 10 hours. Look at how the justices, painstakingly took each item one by one, from the preliminary objections to the motions. Down to the objections on documents, exhibits and substantial issues.”

Wike, therefore, maintained that there was no need for the petitioners – Atiku; the PDP; the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi – to appeal the judgment. He opined that the Tribunal “affirmed” the will of Nigerians.

The former Rivers State Governor speaking further said, he did not support his party and its flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar at the tribunal because their position on the 2023 presidential election was wrong.

“I believe their position was wrong. I believe in equity, fairness and justice.”
