UK Govt opens VISA office in Enugu to the delight of Gov. Mbah & Enugu people
It was joy galore both from Enugu state governor Peter Mbah and people of the state as UK government announces the opening of a a visa office in Enugu.
Hitherto visa applicants have to travel from Enugu to either Lagos or Abuja to process their visa.
The new visa office in Enugu is the only one in the whole of the South East region and will not serve the people of Enugu state but the whole of the South East.
Reacting to that Enugu State government commended the United Kingdom government for setting up the visa centre in the state to facilitate visa applications by not only residents in the state but the entire South-East zone, and the country at large.
In a statement, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof Chidiebere Onyia, recalled that the visa centre was part of Governor Peter Mbah’s earlier requests during the visit to the government House, Enugu, by the UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, in June this year.
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah in the statement said the government received the news of the visa centre with delight and satisfaction, stressing that it would further enhance economic partnership and cultural exchanges between Enugu State and the United Kingdom. “The Enugu State Government therefore looks forward to a strong, mutually beneficial relationship with the UK, as the visa centre would help cement the relationship”, the statement added.
The government called on the people, especially those residing in the South-East to avail themselves of the opportunity provided to file their visa applications in the state, saying the government would ensure improved security both to residents and visitors carrying on business in the state.
It reiterated that the state was open for business and investment more than ever before.
Speaking on the opening of a new temporary submission centre for UK visas in Enugu State, the British High Commission in Nigeria says they are pleased to announce that the center will begin officially, starting from 13 September 2023.
“This facility will operate out of the Omedel Luxury Hotel, 4/6 Link Road off Pascal and Jerk Bust stop. Independence Layout, Enugu and will shortly offer a twice-a-week service,” the commission said in a statement on Monday.
The commission added that “The appointment system allows an applicant to select Enugu as their application location. when applying for a UK Visa. This is in addition to current locations in Abuja. Lagos and Port Harcourt.”
“The temporary submission centre in Enugu opens as a Premium Location meaning it will cost NGN246,250.00, which includes a Premium Lounge appointment, courier return, SMS notifications, general customer support and guidance.”
Speaking further on the mode of operation, the commission said “Demand for visa services will be carefully monitored and service reviewed/expanded should there be sufficient volumes.
TLS will trial this location for at least 3 months to assess uptake of the service and enable decisions on continuation.”
