Again container laden truck falls on top of toyota corolla on Lagos Ojuelegba bridge…Lagos state govt. shuts down bridge

There was pandemonium on Sunday evening as a 40ft container fell on a moving Toyota Corolla vehicle on top of the Lagos Ojuelegba bridge.

As a result of this, the Lagos State government has temporarily shut down the Ojuelegba bridge to vehicular traffic.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Funsho Williams Avenue, inward Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

However, in a press statement by the director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, said the Nigeria Police and other emergency responders rescued the occupants of the vehicle.

Luckily none of the occupants of the Toyota Corolla lost his or her life

According to him, out of the 3 occupants of the trapped vehicle, only one person came out unhurt and was allowed to go home immediately.

He said, ‘Traffic Officer Olajide Olukoga ‘Bravo’ who led the LASTMA rescue operations at the scene of the accident confirmed that a 40ft container fell on top of a Toyota Corolla car (JJJ 811 FB) at the top Ojuelegba bridge inwards Stadium.

“The remaining 2 rescued casualties (an adult male and a female) were rushed to hospital by an ambulance belonging to Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

“Policemen from Surulere Police Division were at the scene to provide adequate security while the entire Ojuelegba bridge inwards Stadium was temporarily closed down and traffic diverted to the service lane by Lastma as rescue and recovery operations are ongoing.”

Ojuelegba bridge has been notorious for heavy duty truck accidents in recent times. If it’s not fuel laden trucks catching fire on top of the bridge it will be container laden trucks falling on top of smaller vehicles.

Recently Lagos state government muted the idea of banning heavy duty trucks from assessing the Ojuelegba bridge but the extent of the implementation of the ban is what Nigerians cannot vouch for.
