Nigerians grumble on appointment of 25 years fresh NYSC pass out Imam Ibrahim Kashim as Ferma Chairman
President Bola Tinubu has appointed board members and a management team for the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).
Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesperson, announced the development in a statement on Friday.
Ngelale said Ibrahim Imam was appointed the chairman of the board of the agency, while Chukwuemeka Agbasi is the managing director of the agency.
Imam holds a first-class bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s in engineering business management from the University of Sussex. Prior to his appointment, he served as a special assistant to Dave Umahi, the minister of works.
His father ran for Borno state governor as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in 2003 and 2007, losing to Ali Modu Sheriff from the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) both times.
The presidential spokesperson said the appointment is for a renewable term of four years.
Ngelale further said: “Tinubu expects the new appointees to achieve integrous and competent service delivery, given the central role that the institution will play in the sustainable health of growth-enabling infrastructure nationwide.”
But some Nigerians are complaining of the propriety of appointing 25 years fresh NYSC pass out to the highly technical and all important Ferma to head the road agency.
One of the aggrieved Nigerians Jackson Ude complained that it was wrong to appoint such inexperienced person to such position. According to him he has no job experience, and no qualifications other than his new Masters degree.
To him this appointment is ridiculous and its is purely a compensation for his father, Kashim Imam who a close ally of Tinubu and has been complaining of being abandoned and sidelined since he helped Tinubu win the election.
