A school in the United Kingdom has appointed an AI robot as principal.
Cottesmore School in West Sussex has hired Abigail Bailey, a chatbot developed by an AI developer, to help the headmaster run the school, reports The Guardian.
Abigail Bailey is a large language model, also known as a conversational AI or chatbot, that has been trained on a massive amount of text data. She is able to generate text, translate languages, and write different kinds of Creative content, and answer your questions in an informative way.
The headmaster of Cottesmore School, Tom Rogerson, hopes that Abigail Bailey will be able to help him with a variety of tasks, including:
Supporting fellow staff members
Helping students with ADHD
Writing school policies
Analyzing data
Making decisions
Rogerson told the Telegraph that Abigail Bailey has been developed to have a wealth of knowledge in machine learning and educational management and the ability to process vast amounts of data.
“Sometimes having someone or something there to help you is a very calming influence,” he said. “It’s nice to think that someone who is unbelievably well-trained is there to help you make decisions.”
The teacher, named Abigail Bailey, won’t be leading assemblies, taking detentions or giving out homework because she isn’t human.
