70% of women in Kirikiri prison are there for killing husband/boyfriend for infidelity—Research report

A social media influencer, Cross, has said that 70% of inmates in Kirikiri Women’s Prison, Lagos, are there for murder or manslaughter over boyfriends or husbands cheating on them.

“Visit the Kirikiri female prison in Lagos, built to accommodate 500 to 600 inmates, but have over a thousand there. 70% of that number are there for murder/manslaughter over boyfriend/husband cheating. 20% are for armed robbery and accomplices. The remaining 10% – other crimes,” he said on Wednesday after a Nigerian 1zlady ‘mistakenly killed a friend’ during fight.

Reacting to the post, the founder of Ray of Hope Prison Outreach, said two young women were recently sentenced to life imprisonment for killing their boyfriends.

“I was in court the day they sentenced two girls 19-21yo to life imprisonment for killing their boyfriends. 80% of the ladies I’ve spoken to are charged for homicide. Ladies we need to work on our anger! If you can’t handle your man’s shenanigans, kindly leave,” she wrote.

I visit The Female Correctional Centre often and I doubt this percentage. Even if it is true, women rarely commit crimes because if only over 1,000 women are in the only female prison in Lagos that harbors about 20 million people, then it’s fine. And to whom it may concern, I am a man!

These are the ones caught. Most men die from wives gradually poisoning their husbands. Then he develops some strange illness like kidney or liver failure. The crime he alleged that women in that prison committed is true but women are not usually many in a prison. There’s a prison in SS the first time I visited it there, were four female inmates but after few months when I revisited the prison I met three females. But males are usually in there thousands. When I inquired the reason the prison officers said that men commit crimes because of women.
