Super Eagles not ready for next year AFCON & 2026 world cup qualification —Ex super eagles coach, Sampson Siasia
Former Nigerian international, Samson Siasia has revealed that the Super Eagles will struggle to make good impact at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and 2026 World Cup because the team is currently disorganised.
Siasia made this known in an interview with Channels TV, where he slammed Nigeria’s inability to beat Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
He stated that the players must be made to understand what it means to wear the green and white jersey of the nation.
“Like the majority of Nigerians, I am worried about the Eagles’ lackluster performances so far. Struggling against countries like Lesotho and Zimbabwe is not a good sign of a team ready to win the Africa Cup of Nations as well as qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” the former striker stated in an interview with Channels TV.
“Let us not deceive ourselves, we cannot be the best in Africa with this disorganised team. Our players must be made to understand what it means to wear the green and white jersey of the nation while the coach also needs to improve on the tactical approach.”
Siasia played 51 international matches for Nigeria, in which he scored thirteen goals, and was part of the team that participated in the 1994 FIFA World Cup and won the 1994 African Nations Cup.
He was also a member of the Nigerian team that won bronze at 1992 African Nations Cup in Senegal. He participated in the national team over a period of 11 years and was recognized in Nigeria as the third leading scorer for the national team.
