Man attacks ex girlfriend with screw driver & injuring herfor refusing to serve him food

A man has pleaded guilty to assault after being accused of allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend in Makadara, Nairobi.

Brian Mandara, 33, is reported to have injured his ex-girlfriend Lilian Nekesa with a screwdriver at her shop in Lunga Lunga slums after she denied him food.

The suspect was brought to the Makadara court where he was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm contrary to section 251 of the Penal Code for allegedly injuring Ms Nekesa.

According to court papers, the accused went to the complainant’s shop on the morning of November 17, where he found his ex-girlfriend with a friend before asking for food saying he was hungry.

Nekesa however did not accept her ex-boyfriend’s request for food well and asked her friend to let him know that she would only cook for him if he bought food.

The accused, however, said that he had no money and continued to demand food. Following the tension, Mr Mandara is said to have entered the complainant’s shop and started attacking him with a screwdriver and a pry bar, injuring her on the head and back.

It was only when Nekesa’s friend intervened that the attack stopped and the accused went to a bar while his ex-girlfriend was taken to hospital.

A statement was later filed at the Lungalunga police station and an investigation began immediately leading to the arrest of the accused.

When he was brought before Judge Mary Njagi, Mandara admitted the charge and said that he will settle with the plaintiff outside the court.

The judge however ordered that he be remanded until December 22 when the prosecution will present the facts and evidence before the suspect is sentenced if Nekesa does not drop the charges.
