Abia state Gov. Alex Otti set to commence reconstruction of abandoned Umuahia -Uzuakoli-Ohafia road
At Long last the long abandoned Umuahia -Uzuakoli-Ohafia road will receive attention by being reconstructed.
This was made known by Abia state Commissioner for information Okey Kanu while addressing newsmen in the state capital, Umuahia.
Kanu further revealed that Governor Otti will flag off the reconstruction of the Umuahia-Ozuakoli-Ohafi road on Wednesday, February 7, 2023.
He added that the road will be divided into three sections and awarded to three construction firms namely;
Cranbury, Ferotex and China Civil Engineering Construction Company for timely delivery of the project.
The first phase of the reconstruction flag off will be from portions of the road from Umuahia to -Uzuakoli.
The second phase will be from Uzuakoli to Akara Junction in Isuikwuato.
While the third phase will be from Akara-Junction to Ohafia.
It will be recalled that the Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Ohafia road is a federal government trunk A road but has since been abandoned making commuters and communities on that axis of the state to suffer untold hardship and risks moving to and fro the badly dilapidated road
The regime of the trio of Orji Uzor Kalu, TA Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu abandoned the road since 1999 making the road to continue deterioration.
Kanu also announced that the state is embarking on the maintenance of 22 new roads scattered across the state.
