I haven’t received a single salary since I became Governor 24 months ago—Soludo

In a shocking revelation during the celebration of his administration’s second anniversary, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State announced that he has not received a salary since he took office.

This statement was made at the International Convention Center in Awka, highlighting the governor’s commitment to running an austere government amidst challenging economic conditions.

Governor Soludo emphasized the personal sacrifices he and his family have made, including the fact that his wife, the First Lady of Anambra, does not use an official state car but instead uses the family’s personal vehicles. This move is part of a broader strategy to cut costs and reduce the financial burden on the state’s resources.

Underlining his administration’s approach, Soludo pointed out that, unlike previous governments, his has not taken on any new debt in the last two years. This decision comes despite the state receiving about 25% less in revenue, in real or dollar terms, compared to past administrations. The governor’s strategy relies on maximizing efficiency and minimizing waste, ensuring that the state’s finances are directed towards projects and services that significantly benefit the public.

Governor Soludo also pledged full accountability for the state’s finances, promising that any borrowing under his watch would be transparently linked to specific projects with clear repayment plans.
