Terrorists attack military base in Gujiba town, Yobe and kill kill one soldier
Around midnight on Saturday, March 23, suspected terrorists had attacked a military base in Gujba town, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State, killing one soldier.
DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesman for the Yobe State Police Command, confirmed the attack to newsmen on Sunday and stated that the suspected terrorists also torched a military patrol vehicle, according to The PUNCH.
”The only thing I can confirm to you now is the attack. A soldier was killed, and troops and CJTF engaged the suspected terrorists,” he said. Reliable local sources told reporters that the suspected insurgents, who stormed the town by 12 midnight, shooting indiscriminately and subsequently attacking the military base, were later repelled by troops who chased them out to the surrounding bush.
A resident of Gujba, Modu Bahna, while narrating his ordeal, said, “ Suspected terrorists stormed the town some minutes after midnight, shooting sporadically and majority of us took to our heels into the surrounding bushes for our dear lives.”
Another source, Dala Bukar, said the attackers did not target civilians or loot food or essential commodities stores. Instead, they attacked two patrol vehicles at the military base, resulting in the death of one soldier.
This incident occurred shortly after 15 soldiers lost their lives during a communal clash in Delta State. Among the casualties were two Majors, one Captain, and 12 soldiers. They were responding to a distress call during a clash between Okuama and Okoloba communities in the state when they met their tragic fate.
