Father arrested for selling six of his biological children in Sokoto
No less than 20 children rescued by the Nigerian Police, Sokoto State Command, have been handed over to the State Orphanage for proper care.
This was stated by the state Commissioner of Police, Ali Kaigama, addressing journalists at the command headquarters in the state capital connection on Thursday.
He said the command arrested 10 suspects in with the incident.
The suspects include one Bala Abubakar from Tudun Wada area of Sokoto.
She is alleged to have given birth to a total of 28 children, including six of her biological children.
He said the suspects handed over their victims to Kulu Dongoyaro and Elizabeth Ojah in exchange for between N150,000 and N250,000, claiming that they were being taken to an Abuja-based NGO that is willing to take on the responsibilities of their welfare.
Kaigama also revealed the arrest of Saifullah Hassan of Gunmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State who allegedly killed one Balikisu Garba of Gidan Dare behind Jummat Mosque at Ifeoma Hotel.
He said: “On May 24, 2024, at about 06:20 hours, Mr John, Manager of Ifeoma Hotel in Sokoto Phase 1 Old Airport area, reported that a woman identified as Balikisu Garba of Gidan Dare she was found dead.
“Upon receiving the report, police officers from the Old Airport Division led by the DPO swung into action and as a result, the suspicious bag, which was abandoned after the act, containing some payment receipts and some SIM cards was recovered. .
“These recoveries led to the identification of the suspect as Saifullah Hassan from Gunmi LGA of Zamfara State which intensified the investigation and the suspect was subsequently located and arrested in Funtua, Katsina State.”
The command also announced the successful rescue of Barrister Rukayat, who was recently kidnapped in the Bado area of the state.
He said: “The command, through the Yabo Division, together with the Military and Vigilance Group, acted based on credible information and undertook a rescue operation.
“The team went to the location around the Binji axis, where they traced footprints to a forest, where the suspected kidnappers were tracked down and defeated, resulting in the subsequent rescue of three victims.
“One suspect was neutralized and another was fatally injured, while ten rounds of live ammunition, two solar panels, a Tecno mobile phone and a blanket were recovered at the scene.”
The PC, while assuring residents of the state that the command remains committed to maintaining law and order, commends the state governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, for his support throughout the investigation process.
He called on the good people of the state to continue cooperating with the command for a safer environment.
