Over half of Americans say Donald Trump is unfit to be president after court conviction
More than half of Americans think former President, Donald Trump is unfit to become the president of the country after his latest conviction according to the latest CBS poll.
TheNiche had earlier reported that a New York jury recently found Trump guilty on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
He is expected to be sentenced on July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention and he faces penalties ranging from a fine to four years in prison on each count.
He is, however, expected to be sentenced for the offenses concurrently, and not consecutively.
Following the guilty verdict, 51 percent of respondents in the CBS poll said the 2024 Republican presidential candidate is unfit to be president.
Forty percent are of the opinion that he is still qualified to lead the country while another 8 percent are undecided.
Apart from this, the new poll also revealed over half of Americans think the jury reached the right verdict and that the trial was fair.
When asked if they arrived at the correct verdict, 57 percent said the jury made the right decision while 43 percent said it was the wrong verdict.
On party lines, 94 percent of Democrats think Trump is not fit to be president, while 50 percent of Independents shared similar view.
However, only 10 percent of Republicans said he is not qualified, while about 81 percent remain overwhelmingly of the belief that Trump was treated unfairly.
They called the jury biased and argued the evidence against him was insufficient, adding that the charges were politically motivated.
