I won’t obey court order on reinstatement of Shuaibu as I have filed stay of execution of judgement—- Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has insisted that he will not obey court order, which directed the reinstatement of Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of the state.

ASHENEWS recalls that Justice James Omotoso of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, set aside Philip Shaibu’s impeachment as the state’s deputy governor and ordered his reinstatement.

But Obaseki, through his Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, said that Godwins Omobayo remained the deputy governor of the Edo state.

“Following the Federal High Court, Abuja judgment that faulted the impeachment of the erstwhile Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, the Edo State government has filed a stay of execution of the judgment.

“Pending the hearing of the appeal of the judgment, the incumbent Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Godwins Marvellous Omobayo, remains and continues to serve as the valid Deputy Governor of Edo State. He will continue to serve in this capacity, and will be recognised as such.”

Obaseki also called on Edo residents to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses.

Justice Omotoso, in his judgement held that Shuaibu’s impeachment and subsequent removal from office violated the provisions of the law.

He also ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to restore his security details as deputy governor.
