In senate you don’t talk as if you are in a night club…you wait for recognition before you speak—Akpabio berates Senator Natasha

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has schooled Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central on how to speak on the floor of the Senate, saying the Senate isn’t a nightclub.

The Senate was in session on Thursday when Akpabio said those in favour of the second reading of a bill should say ‘Aye’ while those against say ‘Nay’.

The ‘Nay’ response was the loudest and as the Senate President contemplated his next action, Senator Natasha rose to explain why she and some others were against the second reading of the bill.

“Mr President, we don’t want it to be killed. We just want a bit of modification. We don’t want the bill killed but there should be slight modification…”

Responding to her, Akpabio said, “You see Senator Natasha, in the chamber, you have to be recognized before you speak. We’re not in a nightclub.”

Natasha said, “Oh, pardon me,” and returned to her seat.

Meanwhile, the development has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media with many saying the language used by the Senate President is unethical.

@lekeolofin said; “This our Senate President is hilariously derogatory in most of his jabs. Sen. Natasha is a very pretty lady, does it mean that pretty ladies are only good to be associated with nightclubs? The Senator should get herself acquainted with the standing order of d Red Chamber too.”

@humphramania wrote; “How’s Akpabio still the SP? Man is just a careless talker honestly. What does he mean referring to her that they’re not in a nightclub? Is Sen. Natasha a nightclubber? Has he seen or met her in a nightclub before?”

@Abdulherphyz said; “This is real? This is absolutely disgraceful. She should’ve given him some mouthful. Akpabio should be embarrassed with himself for that rubbish.”

@BlackOwl_47 reacted; “She was wrong, but it was enough when he said “in the chamber, you have to be recognised before you speak”, he didn’t need to use derogatory remarks like “we’re not in a night club” to her.”

@BeeOne503 said; “And she immediately acknowledged her mistake and said pardon me but he went ahead to bash her with that nightclub statement.”
