Why federal government won’t take any action in threat to poison Igbos is because there is no need for intervention– Abike Dabiri & Akpabio
Nigerian lawmakers – the Senate and the House of Representatives – have officially reacted to the threat by one Kingsley Ugiagbe to poison Igbos in Austria.
Responding to a letter by Austria-based Nigerian activist, Uzoma Ahamefule, and addressed to the lawmakers through their principal officers – Senator Godswill Akpabio Senate President and Hon. Abbas Tajudeen Speaker House of Reps. – Hon. Dr Abike Dabiri CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), wrote that she had been directed to “acknowledge the receipt” of the letter, reports News Express.
Replying to the appeal made for the lawmakers as stakeholders in Nigeria’s affairs to get involved and take actions commensurate to what they did in the case of Mrs Amaka Patience Sonnberger in Canada, she wrote: “There was no need for an intervention.”
According to the letter, the reasons had been that the Edo Community in Vienna, Austria, had promptly condemned and denounced Mr Ugiagbe’s actions and threatened the withdrawal of his membership, and that he apologized.”
The letter elaborated that the Nigerian government representatives took actions against Mrs Amaka Sonnberger because NiDCOM “were bombarded with petitions from Nigerians in Canada,” and also reported the case to the Canadian authority. And in comparison of the case in Canada to that of Mr Kingsley Ugaigbe in Austria, Hon. Dr Dabiri stated that they had not received “any petition or complaints from Nigerians in Austria,” and that it had looked as if there had been no union like Edo in Canada to caution her, and that she had been unapologetic and boastful.
Nigerians who spread hatred through social media were also warned and evenly advised in the letter to desist from such and to see themselves as Nigerians and be good ambassadors of the country.
The letter was equally sent to Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ibrahim Jibrin, Speaker House of Reps., Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Deputy Speaker House of Reps, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Senate Majority Leader, Sen. Michael Bamidele, House Leader House of Reps., Hon. Julius Ihonvbere, Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, H. E. Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON and the Nigerian Embassy Vienna, Austria.
