84 year old ex US speaker Nancy Pelosi hospitalized after falling down stairs in Luxembourg….may need knee surgery

Pelosi, 84, tripped down the marble stairs at the Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg City and sustained an injury that would likely be repaired with a routine operation, though it’s not clear whether that would happen in Luxembourg or the U.S., the New York Times reported, citing people close to Pelosi and those familiar with the incident.

Earlier, Ian Krager, a spokesperson for Pelosi’s office, said Pelosi was hospitalized for an evaluation and is receiving “excellent treatment” after sustaining an injury during an official engagement in Luxembourg.

A spokesperson for Pelosi told CNN she was working from the hospital.

Pelosi traveled with a bipartisan delegation to Luxembourg to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, which took place during World War II in the Ardennes Forest between Belgium and Luxembourg, Krager said.

Krager said Pelosi “looks forward to returning home to the U.S. soon” and would continue to work in the meantime, though it’s not immediately clear how long Pelosi would remain in the hospital.
