Umunnekwu Agbo Development Union in Isuikwuato LGA elects new Exco….Dr Sunny Oby Maduka emerges new President -General

The much awaited general election of the Umunnekwu Agbo Development Union has been successfully conducted with new leaders emerging to take over the mantle of leadership.

The countdown to the actual election of casting votes started two days ago with online voting that enfranchised diasporians and those who could not make it down to the village for the physical casting of their votes.

The climax of the election was done on Saturday December,28,2024 at the community square as eligible voters trooped out en masse to cast their votes

At the end of the voting Dr Sunny Oby Maduka emerged the winner beating Monday Orji to a second position.

Sunny Maduka a retired Director with the Nigerian Ports Authority is also an avid writer and columnist with Independent Newspaper. He is also an activist extraordinaire and a community leader.

In July when Umunnekwu Agbo was thrown into darkness following the felling and destruction of NEPA poles and cables in the community he volunteered himself to champion the restoration of light to the community. He transparently mobilized about N10 million through voluntary donations by members of the community and within one month light was restored to the community.

Others elected are
Ifeanyi, Vice President-General, High Chief Chidi Ogboku, Secretary-General.

Announcing the results the chairman of UADU electoral committee chairman Apostle Ben Chukwunenye Nchi said having met all the stipulated conditions the candidates who won the election did that transparently and he thereafter handed them the certificate of return.

One of the highlights of the election was the defeat of the incumbent secretary-general Hon. Ndukwe Akubueze by High Chief Chidi Ogboku.

In his acceptance speech Dr Sunny Maduka expressed a heart full of gratitude and appreciation and urged the entire community to support him to take Umunnekwu Agbo to greater heights.

Dr Sunny Maduka will be taking over from outgoing President-General Hon Chimdi Oluoha, a retired permanent secretary with Abia state government and former aide to former Abia state governor and serving Abia North senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

One of issues Dr Sunny Maduka will face and tackle squarely is the issue uniting the community and to do something about security in the community where thieves break into houses of people to cart away belongings or steal electricity cables and gadgets of the community.
