We are afraid to walk at night & are vulnerable to criminal attacks… streetlights are not working—-Lagos residents cry out
Residents of Lagos State have expressed deep concern over the failure of streetlights across the metropolis, leaving many areas in darkness and vulnerable to crime and accidents.
How Lagos Residents Cry Out Over Failing Streetlights: “We Are Afraid to Walk at Night
The lack of functioning streetlights has become a persistent problem in Lagos, Africa’s largest city and economic hub. Many streets are plunged into darkness at night, putting pedestrians and drivers at risk.
“I’m scared to walk on the road at night because of the darkness,” said Mrs. Oyinlola, a resident of Ikeja. “The streetlights are not working, and it’s an invitation to criminals.”
The failing streetlights have turned many areas into danger zones, prone to accidents and crime. Motorists are forced to navigate through dark roads, increasing the risk of accidents.
Lagos State Government has been urged to take immediate action to repair and maintain the streetlights, ensuring the safety and security of residents.
“We need functioning streetlights to prevent accidents and crime,” said Mr. Johnson, a resident of Surulere. “The government must take responsibility for our safety.”
The Lagos State Government has been approached for comment, but no response has been received at the time of going to press.
