Ignore the rumours I will never decamp to APC as I’m still fully in PDP —-Governor Fubura dismisses defection speculations
Amid growing speculations that he may leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has broken his silence, firmly stating that he remains a loyal member of the PDP.
Recently, online reports fueled rumours of a possible defection, claiming that Governor Fubara, along with Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, were planning to join the APC as part of a political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
These Fubara defection rumours gained more traction when Governor Oborevwori, his deputy, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other PDP stakeholders in Delta State officially defected to the APC on Wednesday.
However, in a swift response, Governor Fubara—through his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Jerry Omatsogunwa—cleared the air, saying there are no such plans in Rivers State.
“I doubt if the governor is even aware of the rumoured defection,” Omatsogunwa told DAILY POST on Thursday, April 24, 2025. “As it stands now, we are still members of the PDP, and nothing has changed.”
Omatsogunwa emphasized that Governor Fubara has not discussed leaving the PDP and remains an active member.
“For now, the governor has not talked about defection. He is still a bona fide member of the PDP. In fact, he is the Deputy Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.”

As of the morning of April 24, Omatsogunwa insisted that there is no truth to the claims, adding that Fubara defection rumours are unfounded.
With Rivers State still grappling with political tensions, especially surrounding Governor Fubara’s suspension and recent events in Delta State, the governor’s team is making it clear that there is no switch to APC on the horizon—at least for now.
The PDP has yet to release an official statement, but sources close to the party say they are monitoring developments closely amid the wave of defections in the South-South.
While the Fubara defection rumours continue to trend online, the Rivers governor’s camp insists he remains committed to the PDP platform.
