FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, made the disclosure while speaking to journalists on Saturday.
She stated that the agency’s engineers had certified the runway fit for landings and takeoffs after the repairs.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Enugu State, will reopen for flight operations on Monday, 28th April 2025, following the completion of emergency runway repairs,” Orah said.
She recalled that FAAN had earlier announced on April 18, 2025, that the airport’s runway would be temporarily closed due to a sudden and significant rupture on the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway.
“The work was scheduled to begin on April 22nd and conclude before reopening on May 6th, 2025.”
“However, rehabilitation works on the runway have been completed, and the runway is cleared for landings and takeoffs by the engineers working with FAAN,” she added.
FAAN expressed appreciation to all airport users and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the period of closure.”
The Authority also apologized for any inconvenience caused, assuring the public that the repairs were necessary and carried out strictly in the interest of safety.
