For every N1 generated by Dangote cement company federal government takes N52k—Aliko Dangote
The Dangote Group founder, Aliko Dangote, asserted that the Nigerian government receives 52 kobo for each N1 made from the manufacture and distribution of Dangote Cement.
Dangote made the assertion Wednesday during the 2025 Taraba International Investment Summit, reports BusinessDay.
“I’m sure it might be shocking to you to know that the federal government of Nigeria, not even the state, makes more money from, for example, our cement business. For every N1 we turn around, 52 kobo goes to the federal government of Nigeria,” he stated.
According to him, governments gain from both public and private investments when they establish favorable conditions for companies to operate and file taxes.
“We always say that the government has no business in business. If it’s true, they don’t have business in business. Though, how are they going to make money, educate people, you know, do the hospital, road, infrastructure? It’s through what? Taxes,” Dangote said.
“Have you ever heard of an oil block owned by the US government? No, an oil block is not owned by the US government. Additionally, they are currently the world’s largest oil producers. However, taxes are how they generate their revenue.
He went on to say that until local investors prosper, foreign investors are reluctant to make an investment in a country.
According to Dangote, the company would keep making investments in Nigeria in order to boost local economies and generate jobs.
