Again Rivers state Governor Fubara’s commissioner for works resigns following Tinubu’s appointment as DG of border communities development agency
Mr George-Kelly D. Alabo, Rivers State Commissioner for Works, has resigned from his position following his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu as the Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA).
He was one of the commissioners loyal to the controversial Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, who resigned during the political face-off in the state in 2023.
In a statement addressed to governor Siminalayi Fubara, the former commissioner cited President Tinubu’s recent appointment as his reason for resigning.
Recall that President Tinubu, in a statement on Thursday by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, announced the appointment of Alabo.
In the statement, Ngelale said, “The President expects that the new Director-General will discharge his duties with integrity, diligence, and dedication for the effective administration of the agency, and the management of critical policies and programmes in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda for border community development.”
Some Nigerians are seeing this move as display of politics of divide and rule as the latest appointment is from FCT minister Wike camp.
Others are blaming Governor Fubura for allowing this to fester as he could not be man enough to stamp his feet as duly elected executive governor.
