Attack on commuter luxurious bus at Ijebu-Ode is attempt to exterminate Igbos—Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu
Frontline elder statesman and president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has called on the federal government to institute a full-scale and thorough investigation into the Ijebu-Ode luxury bus terrorist attack in which 59 people travelling home to Ebonyi state for the easter celebrations nearly lost their lives on Friday, March 29th, 2024.
Chief Iwuanyanwu made the call in a statement released in Owerri alleged that the dastardly act was an attempt of mass extermination of Igbos and called for urgent action to crackdown on the perpetrators.
The Igbo leader disclosed that from the reports received, the terrorists stopped the bus, dispossessed all the 59 passengers in the bus of their belongings, stripped them naked and forced them back into the vehicle, poured petrol on the bus and set it ablaze for them to perish in it.
He stated that it was divine providential intervention from the prayers and invocation of the spirit of easter by the passengers that saved them.
Chief Iwuanyanwu said security agencies in the country have assured him of a thorough investigation and that they are on top of the situation. He said he expects the culprits will be apprehended and brought to book according to the laws of the land.
He also said that he has equally commissioned some of the Security Experts to investigate the matter and report back to him.
According to Chief Iwuanyanwu, such a heinous crime should not be treated lightly because if left, it will escalate. From the report, nobody was kidnapped. The sole objective was to burn the 59 passengers to death.
