Policeman arrested for beating Keke rider with AK-47 rifle gun in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a policeman who was seen in a viral video using the nozzle and butt of his official AK-47 rifle to beat up a tricycle operator.

There had been an outcry over the incident, but the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a press release that the officer has been arrested for questioning, reports Nigerian Tribune.

Ikenga said, “We wish to inform the public that the police officer seen in a viral video assaulting a citizen has been identified.

“Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, ordered immediate disciplinary proceedings to commence regarding the incident.

“The CP reiterated that the command under his watch would not tolerate any form of unprofessional conduct by police personnel and emphasized the need for officers to remain calm and professional, especially when provoked by the public,” he said.

Ikenga also stated that the command is calling on the victim seen in the video to come forward to assist in the investigation into the assault.

He urged citizens to always respect civil authority and remain law-abiding when interacting with law enforcement agents.
