You can’t prosecute Sirika & leave out Buhari on the issue of Nigeria Air Fraud —Female Activist Aisha Yesufu
Social activist Aisha Yesufu says it is unfair to prosecute former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika without former President Muhammadu Buhari, who approved the Nigeria Air deal.
Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged and arraigned the former minister alongside his daughter, Fatima, his son-in-law, Jalal Sule Hamma, and a firm – Al Buraq Global Investment Limited.
The EFCC accused Sirika of conferring undue advantage on his brother and his company, Enginos Nigeria Limited.
The contracts for which the sums were paid for were also said to be undone with no trace of work done to date.
Yesterday, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, also described the controversial Nigeria Air unveiled by the Buhari-led administration as a fraud. He added that it remained suspended.
The Minister noted that the ‘national carrier’ that was supposed to be an indigenous project and one that was supposed to spark hope for Nigerians, was flawed with a lot of secrecy and fraudulent activities.
However, in a post on her X handle on Tuesday, Yesufu said it would amount to selective prosecution if Sirika is prosecuted alone.
“Prosecuting Hadi Sirika without prosecuting Muhammadu Buhari is selective prosecution,” she wrote.
