Angry Rivers youths behead & destroy Wike statue in Obio/Akpor local government protest
The crisis tearing the political landscape of Rivers State apart has taken a very dangerous dimension as the supporters of governor Siminalayi Fubara have destroyed the statue of Barrister Nyesom Wike in Obio/Akpor local government area of the State.
Obio-Akpor local government area is the home town of Mr Wike who is the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Though, this is coming after heavy shooting at the premises of the LG Council, following a move by the former chairman of the LGA, Hon Allwell Ihundah, to access the office.
Fubara had in a statewide broadcast on Tuesday morning, bided the elected chairmen and councilors farewell, warning that their period to occupy their positions legally has ended.
But after the broadcast, the Chairman of PHALGA reportedly came to the council secretariat to pick some of his property, but he was stopped by the angry youths.
Meanwhile, the crisis has its roots in a court ruling recognizing a three-man House of Assembly, which annulled the tenure extension granted by the 27-member Assembly loyal to Wike
Despite the ruling, chairmen insisted on remaining in office for six more months.
In a video which was circulated on X by the Port-Harcourt People @AskPHPeople, had the caption, “Pro-Gov. Sim Fubara’s supporters destroy StatuMinister of FCT, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike at the heof Obino/Akpor Local Government Council.”
As seen in the viral video, after pulling down Wike’s statue, pro-Fubara’s supporters were seen celebrating.
