I don’t believe in one man & one wife…. It’s not an African tradition–Veteran Actor Kanayo O Kanayo
Kanayo O. Kanayo, a veteran Nollywood actor, has started a discourse by revealing his thoughts on monogamy.
In a recent episode of “The Honest Bunch” podcast, Kanayo said that he does not believe in monogamy since it is culturally incompatible with African background.
Kanayo’s enthusiasm for polygamy stems from his conviction that monogamy is a foreign idea imposed on African communities.
Kanayo further said that the notion of divorce was foreign to him until he moved to Lagos from the South East.
He said that in Igbo culture, divorce is seen as a last choice, and that males would prefer stay married than separate.
“I don’t believe in one wife. It is not our culture. It is not our tradition. It is not who we are. These are imported things.
“I never knew anything about divorce until we came to Lagos. The Igbo man prefers to die in the marriage than divorcing,” he said.
It is worth noting that Kanayo is publicly known to be married to one woman, Nneka Onyekwere.
In an exciting development, KOK, via his Facebook page, recently shared with fans the heartwarming news of his son earning his first paycheck as a young man.
The actor expressed his desire to mark this special milestone by ceremoniously bestowing his Father’s Blessings upon his son.
His words;
“I want to observe a culture from our ancestors which has led to the progress of many people you’re seeing today, father’s blessing. Clinton Onyeze, my son, has just concluded a film production management with us and he has earned his first salary, N50,000 for the movie”
Expanding on his thoughts, Kanayo O. Kanayo elaborated that within Igbo culture, it is customary for a young man to present his first earnings to his father, allowing for a heartfelt prayer and invaluable lessons in financial stewardship.
