Tinubu signs South East Development Commission bill into law after several years of disappointment

President Tinubu has signed Into law the South East Development Commission Bill .

The bill was sponsored by deputy speaker of the house of Representatives Benjamin Kalu .

The bill is expected to map out a certain amount of money from the federation account for the development of the south east geographical region.

Since the end of civil war in 1970 there has been cries for establishment of a development commission to handle the challenges arising from the destructions of the war.

It will also be recalled that the then head of state General Gowon promised reconstruction, rehabilitation and reconstruction of the South east region immediately after the war but fifty four years after the war the federal government has not done anything to that effect.

Some regions of the country has one development commission or the other.

For instance the south south has the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) which has been in existence for years enjoying funds allocation for the development of the oil rich and oil devasted south south Niger Delta region.

Also we have the North East Development Commission which is handling reconstruction and rebuilding of the Boko Haram destruction of the region.
