In Botswana university education is free and students are paid to attend school

Botswana a south African country was recently in the news for good reasons.

In the viral video by a newsman the world was made to know that the land locked country without any visible natural resources like oil and gold is doing what most rich and naturally endowed countries are not doing.

The country that gained independence in the 1070s according to the video was said to have tasked each family to donate one cow for the building of the country’s university.

With the money realized from the sale of the cows they were able to build a university.

It did not end there as the government made education compulsory and tuition free up to university level.

To make the story more fascinating and unbelievable the students not only enjoy a tuition free education but are paid about $143 every month as upkeep allowance.

This allowance applies to about 16,000 students in the country’s university.

To confirm the story some of the students interviewed collaborated on the story.

An eighteen year old girl studying mathematics said she collects $1500 Bostwana dollar as she lives in the university’s hostel whereas those living off campus are being paid $1900 Bostwana dollar.
