Former FCT minister & military General Jeremiah Useni is dead…He was aged 82 years

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) 1993 – 1998, Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni, is dead. He died at the age 82 years after a protracted illness.

According to the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Gyang Bere, his boss, the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, confirmed his death in a statement issued on Thursday in Jos, the State capital.

The former FCT Minister represented Plateau South Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2015 and 2019,

Gov Mutfwang, who described Useni’s demise as a huge loss to Plateau State, urged his immediate family and residents of the State in general to take solace in God.

“On behalf of my family, the government, and the peace-loving people of Plateau, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to the President, the Armed Forces, and the Tarok nation over the loss of this distinguished elder statesman.

“I wish to also extend my condolences to his immediate family and relations; I call on them to take solace in God in this trying time.”

The Governor commended General Useni’s life of selfless service. He noted his profound contributions to the military, politics and community. Going further, his excellency that the late General’s legacy of compassion, kindness, generosity and dedication to the well-being of others will endure the lives of those he impacted while here on earth.

During his military career, the deceased general also served as Minister of Transport and Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, among many other appointments.

The late Useni, upon retirement from the military, ventured into politics and served as Deputy National Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP)and was also the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Plateau State during the 2019 general elections.
