Alaba International market fire outbreak, a hoax and fake news—POLICE
Lagos State Police have denied reports of a fire outbreak at the Alaba International Market in the Ojo area of the State.
In a statement released on Friday, police spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin clarified that the market was not on fire, but rather that police had conducted a raid on shanties around the market based on credible information.
During the operation, suspected criminals were apprehended and weapons were recovered.
The shanties were subsequently set ablaze. The earlier reports of a fire outbreak at the market, which was said to have started at a gas cylinder shop and spread to other parts of the market, causing damages worth millions of naira, were found to be false.
Yesterday the social media and some national radio carried the news of a fire outbreak at Ojo area of the electronic international market fuelling apprehensions of huge loss of goods and money by the traders.
