Dead body angrily returned to mortuary after family’s violent clash at his funeral

The dead body of 78-year-old Emmanuel Agbozo, popularly known as “Nil oo Nii,“ in Nkurakan, Yilo Krobo Municipality, Eastern Region, of Ghana has been returned to the mortuary after it was scheduled to be buried on Saturday.

However, the planned burial of Agbozo was marred by violent family clash which necessitated the postponement of the burial, reports Nigerian Tribune.

According to a source, violence broke out on Saturday morning as the family was preparing to perform the funeral rite.

The source stated that the funeral took a tragic turn and has to take police’s intervention to prevent blood shed. The police, it was said, had to escort the deceased’s body to be returned to a private mortuary at Huhunya, a nearby community.

Ghana Web revealed that the course of the violence was precipitated by an attempt to prevent one of the deceased’s children from participating in the funeral rites.

According to the report, family members had accused the individual of abandoning his now-deceased father during his illness. He was also accused of failing to visit him while he was alive.

The report also added that late Agbozo, before his demise, had explicitly instructed the family not to allow the son to attend his funeral.

However, violent confrontation ensued as the family members attempted to enforce the late man’s directive. This is even as the son brought some young men to fight the family members.

In the melee that ensued, property were destroyed, and many sustained injuries before Police reinforcements were called.

The Police, in order to ensure peace and prevent further escalation, ordered the body to be returned to the mortuary. The funeral was suspended indefinitely.

Suspects involved in the clash are currently assisting the police with investigations, Ghana Web stated.
