Diesel Laden Tanker falls on Lagos-ibadan expressway…causes 14 hours gridlock
A tanker carrying thousands of litres of diesel fell at Ibafo end of Lagos-ibadan expressway around 2am on Sunday.
This accident totally blocked the road as motorists and commuters had it tough driving through the road.
The situation was aggravated by motorists taking one way and thereby blocking both sides of the road, inward Ibadan and inward Lagos.
The tanker crash lasted more than 14 hours as it was eventually taken off around 3:45pm making motorists and residents of the involved communities to suffer untold agony.
Many people that prepared for church service or to meet up with engagements had to drive back as they couldn’t face the standstill gridlock while those coming from Lagos got stuck in the traffic for hours.
Many users of the Lagos-ibadan expressway are questioning while it took that long hours to evacuate a truck that fell around 2am. They were of the view that if similar accident happened at Lagos side of the road that it would have been taken off in matter of minutes or couple of hours.
As at 9pm the traffic was still dragging at snail speed as the backlog created was yet to clear as at the time of going to the press.
It has always been problematic and hectic to clear accidents at Ogun end of Lagos-ibadan expressway unlike when such accidents happen at Lagos end. The difference is pointed to the efficiency of LASTMA and TRACE which are the two traffic agencies working in Lagos State and Ogun State.
