Police confirm death of two Nollywood actors caused by food poisoning after shooting movie at Owerri, Imo state
Two members of a filming crew have reportedly died of suspected food poisoning in Imo state.
The incident occurred at about 5pm on Friday around Works Layout by Nwaosu street, Owerri, the state capital, where members of the Nigeria Actors Guild were filming a movie.
According to Zagazola Makama, the group was served food and drinks during the shoot and shortly after consuming the meal, two members, identified as Monday Israel and Evans Sampson, collapsed.
They were rushed to the Federal Medical Center in the state capital but were both confirmed dead on arrival.
The bodies were deposited in the mortuary for autopsy, while other two affected individuals were undergoing treatment.
Some suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, and an investigation is ongoing.
Confirming the incident, Conac Umez, former AGN chairman, Imo state chapter, said the two men died after filming.
“From what I heard, they had a short merriment at the producer’s house after filming for the day. They took a Calypso drink offered to them by the producer,” he said.
“But when they retired to their hotel room, two of them started vomiting and died in the process. The other two were unconscious and rushed to a hospital. They are responding to treatment.
“They also said the producer drank the same drink with them.“
