FG should take decisive action against insecurity & address economic hardship in the country —-Methodist Church Raises Alarm

Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Lagos North, has issued a communique at the end of its 14th Annual Synod, calling on the government to take decisive action against insecurity and address the economic hardship facing the nation.

In the Synod, which was themed “He will rise again” (John 11:23), the church leaders condemned the recent massacre in Plateau and Benue States, where defenseless citizens were slaughtered mercilessly.

They urged the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure the security of lives and properties and to provide adequate provisions for the military to combat insurgents.

The Synod under the leadership, Bishop of Lagos North Diocese, Rt. Rev. Job Osuolale ‘Gboyega Ohu, also expressed concern about the economic climate, high exchange rate of forex, and the homogenous cost of living.

They called on the government to foster a conducive economic and social environment to stop the huge brain drain affecting the country.

Other key issues addressed in the communique include the farmer-herder feud, infrastructural development, fuel subsidy removal, and the harmonization of the foreign currency market.

The Synod commended the President for reactivating the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries and urged the Legislative arm of Government to focus on its constitutional duties.

The church leaders also commended the Lagos State Government for its efforts in security, education, and infrastructural development, while urging them to do more in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

Senator, Representing Ogun East Senatorial, Otunba Jestus Gbenga Daniel; Baba Egbe, Cathedral of St. Paul, Omu Aran, Kwara State, Engr. Sunday Adebayo Babalola, and Mr. David Oyediji Olatokun, commended the bishop for his quality leadership and spiritual activities in the Diocese.

While the Diocesan Lay President, Sir Emmanuel Dotun Somoye (KJW), thanked the guests for honouring the Synod and the Diocese for their support towards the development of the Diocese.

In his remarks, Senator Gbenga Daniel expressed his admiration for the Methodist Church, highlighting its commitment to personal holiness, spiritual growth, and community service.

He commended the church’s leadership, particularly the bishop, for their impactful work.

Senator Daniel praised the church’s structure, values, and activities, including worship, liturgy, evangelism, and education.

He acknowledged the country’s challenges, such as economic mismanagement and over-reliance on foreign goods, but expressed optimism about overcoming these issues.

Daniel emphasized the church’s role in providing guidance, support, and inspiration to its members, particularly during difficult times.

Senator Daniel shared his connection to Methodism, having been excited about the denomination’s beliefs and values.

He recounted his experience with choir competitions during church services and his subsequent decision to establish a separate competition.

Senior Pastor, The City of Light Church, Lagos, Engr. Sunday Adebayo Babalola, prayed for the congregation to understand the power of faith and encouraged them to continue serving God.

He also acknowledged the bishop’s dedication to God’s work, thanking God for his life.
