The resemblance between my late child, Ifeanyi & my new son is scaring me—Musician Davido
Popular Nigerian music star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has opened up about the striking resemblance between his late son, Ifeanyi, and his newborn son, describing it as “scary.”
In a conversation with Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, Davido reflected on the loss of his son Ifeanyi, who tragically drowned in a pool at the singer’s Banana Island residence on November 1, 2022.
Following the incident, Davido revealed he secretly tied the knot with Chioma, his longtime partner.
Nearly a year later, in October 2023, the couple welcomed twins, a boy and a girl, and later held an elaborate wedding ceremony in June 2024.
The singer shared his emotional reaction to the appearance of his newborn son, saying, “And, the boy looks just like my son (Ifeanyi) that passed. It is scary. It’s like literally him. We’re like, ‘No, it’s him. He came back’ type stuff.”
Davido also spoke about the immense grief he faced after losing Ifeanyi and how it prompted him to retreat from the public eye.
“That type of loss made you just be like, ‘I’m out’. I am just going to chill, take care of my wife and take care of the family and get my head right,” he said.
He noted that the birth of his twins was a source of deep comfort and renewal, saying, “To come back from that and…to be blessed with twins out the gate; a boy and a girl.”
The music star also revealed that the tragedy helped reshape his outlook and inspired him to support others facing personal struggles.
According to him, his marriage and the success of his 2023 album Timeless were further affirmations of his faith. “God is real,” he said.
Discussing his journey in the entertainment industry, Davido admitted that seeing his aspirations come true still feels surreal.
He said watching stars on social media back in the day and now being in that position himself makes him feel fulfilled.
Touching on his collaboration with American singer Chris Brown, Davido revealed that they have recorded a significant number of tracks together.
“We could put out two albums right now. It is going to happen. I am happy for Chris. I feel like he is back in his bag. He is celebrating his 20-year anniversary. I told him I was meant to go on this tour (Breezy Bowl, 20-year anniversary tour),” he said.
The award-winning singer confirmed his involvement in the film industry.
“I am an executive producer on a movie and a series with my director, Dammy Twitch. We are also working on my documentary,” he added.
