Father erroneously shoots 15 year old son to death in Ekiti state by mistaking him for a monkey

In a heartbreaking incident in Iye-Ekiti, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, a 15-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed by his own father, who mistook him for a monkey.

The tragic development was confirmed by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, during a book launch in Ado-Ekiti over the weekend.

The event focused on Modern Security and Safety Practices in Nigeria, where Eribo disclosed the incident during his remarks.

According to preliminary investigations, the father had taken his teenage son to their family farm for routine agricultural work.

Due to repeated invasions by monkeys in the past, the man had armed himself that day with a firearm to protect his crops.

While at the farm, the father reportedly noticed movement in a tree and, assuming it was another monkey, took a shot.

Tragically, it was his son who had climbed the tree, and he was struck by the bullet.

The boy was confirmed dead at the scene.
