In a chilling development that has shocked political circles, Chief Jude Ezenwafor, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the upcoming 2025 Anambra State election, was shot by unidentified gunmen on Friday night in Wuse 2, Abuja.
The attack reportedly occurred as Ezenwafor was returning home from a late-night appointment. He is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the Federal Capital Territory after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

Speaking to journalists from his hospital bed in the early hours of Saturday, the wounded politician described the attack as a life-threatening ordeal.
“I’m currently in the hospital. The doctors are making efforts to operate on me so that they can pull out bullets from my body,” Ezenwafor said in a faint voice, visibly shaken.
While the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear, the incident has already sparked concern among party faithful and supporters across Anambra and beyond.
PDP Confirms Attack, Police Yet to Issue Statement
Ezenwafor’s media team confirmed the incident and said he was rushed to the emergency unit immediately after the shooting. A source within the PDP campaign team revealed that the case has been reported to law enforcement agencies, although the police have yet to issue an official statement.
Security experts and political observers are calling for a thorough investigation, especially given the high-profile nature of the victim.
Chief Jude Ezenwafor is no stranger to Nigeria’s political landscape. A former presidential aspirant under the Labour Party, he returned to the PDP earlier this year and was recently confirmed as the party’s flagbearer for the 2025 Anambra governorship election.

As Chief Ezenwafor fights for his life, calls are mounting for swift action to identify the perpetrators and ensure the safety of all political actors ahead of the elections.
