The First Lady of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo, has strongly criticized Senator Uche Ekwunife, the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, over what she described as “malicious allegations” against her family.
Ekwunife had alleged that Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife were part of the late Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju’s administration between 1999 and 2003—a claim she made while defending herself against reports questioning her academic qualifications.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Mrs. Soludo refuted the allegations and dared Ekwunife to take a public oath and consent to DNA tests on her children.
She also warned that legal steps would be taken if the Senator failed to withdraw her remarks and issue an apology within 72 hours.
“For clarity, let me restate three verifiable facts: One, I have never worked for anyone in my life, as I have always been a professional and entrepreneur. Two, I never met Dr. Mbadinuju of blessed memory. Three, in my 55 years, I have known only one man—Chukwuma Soludo,” she declared.
Issuing a direct challenge, Mrs. Soludo added: “Since she claims to be a converted Catholic, I challenge her and myself to swear an oath of fidelity and chastity in any Cathedral before the Blessed Sacrament. I will also swear with my children that I have known only one man—Chukwuma Soludo.”
She further proposed DNA tests for both families in three reputable hospitals in London, offering to cover all expenses.
“If it is confirmed that your husband is the father of all your children, I will congratulate you with a cash reward. My family is ready for this test at any time,” she said.
Concluding, Mrs. Soludo urged Ekwunife to retract her statements and tender an unreserved apology within 72 hours, warning that her legal team had been placed on notice.
Reacting to the development, Senator Ekwunife insisted she had only given Mrs. Soludo “friendly advice.”
“Mrs. Soludo does not owe me any explanation regarding personal family matters. If my statement caused her discomfort, she owes her husband an explanation, not me,” Ekwunife said.
She added: “Challenging me to undergo tests does not involve me, as I am not part of her family affairs. She should focus on addressing those concerns with her husband.”
