May Buhari’s type not come Nigeria’s way Again–Ikechukwu Amaechi
Outlining the reason for upstaging Shagari on December 31, 1983, Buhari claimed, “We have become a debtor and beggar nation. There is inadequacy of food at reasonable prices for our people …, health services are in shambles as our hospitals are reduced to mere consulting clinics without drugs, water and equipment.”
Ironically, he left Nigeria in a worse state 40 years later. But many wouldn’t have been unduly worried if all he did was to take Nigeria from top to bottom as he promised.
As the late Chinua Achebe would say, Buhari “has put a knife on the things that held us together and we have fallen apart.”
It was a deliberate crime against the Nigerian state on behalf of his ilk from the Sahel. In eight years, Buhari, the quisling, willfully damaged the country so much so that the post-Buhari Nigeria is a shadow of its former self.
It is good that Buhari has left office but it will take aeons, if ever, to remedy the situation and pull Nigeria back from the abyss.
While Nigerians, the children of Zion, are holding fast to the promise of God in Joel 2:25, which says, “I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten,” my prayer is: May Buhari’s type never come our way again!”
