Cosmetic reconciliation between Senate president and Senator Natasha seems to be hitting the limelight.
This became public on Thursday during plenary when Akpabio read out Natasha’s letter inviting her colleagues to Ihima in Okehi Local Government Area for the events marking her second anniversary in the Senate
Thus peace appears to have finally returned between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central) and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, as the Kogi lawmaker has extended a formal invitation to Akpabio and all senators to attend a series of project commissioning ceremonies in her constituency next week
. In a letter personally signed by her, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that the ceremonies would take place on Sunday, with the meeting point at her residence, located on Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Kogi State.
According to Senator Natasha “In marking my second anniversary as a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite my distinguished colleagues to join me for project commissioning in Kogi State,” the letter partly read.
She also informed senators that those travelling by air could land at the Obajana Airstrip before proceeding to Ihima by road.
After reading the letter, an evidently pleased Akpabio smiled and said, “Congratulations in advance,” prompting laughter and applause from senators across party lines.
The exchange publicly confirmed what insiders described as the final phase of months-long reconciliation efforts following the bitter dispute that once divided the two lawmakers.
Their disagreement, which began in February over a seat reallocation issue in the Senate chamber, escalated into a larger confrontation that led to Senator Natasha’s six-month suspension by the Senate on March 6.
She was, however, recalled on September 24 and has since resumed complete legislative duties. Her active engagement in plenary and committee activities in recent weeks, coupled with a more cordial tone in Senate proceedings, had already hinted at a reconciliation.
